This was my second visit to India, my first on a photographic safari. I arrived in Delhi which was an assault on the senses. I had booked with Tuskphoto (www.tuskphoto.com) and the local guide was from Nature Wanderers. As I was to learn, it is essential to have local expertise. The itinerary was exciting, a few days in Jim Corbett National Park for tigers and elephants and then Ranthambore for primarily tigers. It had been a dream to see a tiger in the wild for some time so excitement levels were high. I travelled with one other international traveller from London and we had 2 guides. The trip to Corbett was by road and not for the faint-hearted. Our leg to Ranthambore was by train and I loved drinking Chai, the tea brought round on the train, and watching the countryside go by.
Without doubt, the highlights of the trip were the elephants and tigers in Corbett with the beautiful saal forest and river. And the many tigers we saw in Ranthambore - 17 in total. They are truly majestic. However seeing such diverse and different wildlife like samba deer, Asian elephants, chital was incredible. We spent long hot days in Ranthambore but every minute was worth it.I would love to go back.
