Arriving in Tokyo for my first ever trip to Japan was exciting - different language, city and food, as well as cold! Finding my way to my hotel where I met the rest of the tour group and the tour guide was surprisingly smooth despite my big suitcase and camera bag! I had booked my tour with South African Tusk photo (www.tuskphoto.com) who made all arrangements. It was truly amazing being able to see such different wildlife to that I had experienced before, amazing birds and Japanese macaques, not to mention experiencing the incredible food, from gourmet Japanese cuisine at our first Ryokan (Japanese guest house) and the onsens (Japanese communal baths)

Our itinerary: Day 1 - Depart from Tokyo for Jigokudani - Snow Monkeys Day 2 to 3 – Jigokudani Monkey Park - Snow Monkeys Day 4 – Leave Jigokudani and transfer to Lake Kussharo on Hokkaido via domestic flight Day 5 – Lake Kussharo - Whooper swans Day 6 – Transfer to Rausu - Stellar's sea eagles, White-Tailed eagles, Ural owl, Blackiston's fish owl, Sika deer, Ezo red fox Day 7 to 9 – Rausu Day 10 to 12 – Tsurui - Red-crowned cranes Day 13 – Tsurui to Tokyo Day 14 – Tokyo ~ Tour ends
